Key References; What it's all about; What it's not
Key References:
What it's all about:
Caring and supporting each other - "it's more about filling the need for human contact than anything else"
Asking how the families assigned to you would like to be ministered to
Knowing each other and establishing a clear connection point to our Ward Family community for each person/family
Having a simple and easy point of contact for emergencies and support
A way to help keep leadership stay informed of important events or needs in families' lives
An opportunity to form friendships and relationships that build each other up and help each other feel God's love
What it's not:
It's not an automatic chore assignment
It's not automatic friendship - all parties have to work at building a relationship
Ministering companions are not service monkeys (🤣🐒)
Here's some awesome and simple guidance based on the Handbook (Section 21.1) and the Church's Ministering Site
Reach out, learn about, be there for them.
No matter where you are, or how your ministering relationship is today with each family, here's 6 steps to start or refresh your ministering efforts.
6. 👨👩👧👦Maintain the Relationship
Simple. Actionable. Spirit‑led.
Pray for your families by name
Ask what they need
Small acts count
Text, call, doorstep hello, hallway chat
Don’t wait for a formal visit
Be warm and sincere
Know their story, family, pressures, joys
Notice patterns and needs
Listen more than you talk
Customize your approach
Offer help that fits their life and need
Be the friend they need
Small, steady acts > big, rare gestures
Share a scripture, send encouragement, sit with them
Look for ways to lift
Check in regularly
Keep the relationship warm
Be reliable and steady
Give quarterly updates
Ask for help when needed
Coordinate with your companion
Be compassionate and observant
See people as He sees them
Let the Spirit guide timing and words
